El-Rufai Granted Bail Amid Corruption Charges

The Federal Court in Kaduna has granted bail to former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who is standing trial on allegations of corruption involving ten counts related to corrupt practices as prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The trial judge, Rilwan M.

Aikawa, ruled that the offenses are bailable, but ordered El-Rufai to remain in custody until he fulfills the bail conditions. These conditions include a N200 million bond and two sureties, one of whom must be a recognized traditional ruler or a federal civil servant not below grade level 15.

Additionally, El-Rufai is required to submit land property documents and his international passport to the court, and he is restricted from making public comments regarding the case. Meanwhile, a separate suit involving El-Rufai at the Kaduna State High Court has been adjourned until April 21, 2026, due to the absence of the trial judge, Dariu Khobo.
