Court Adjourns N337m Fraud Case Against Assembly Officials

The FCT High Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, has adjourned the re-arraignment of three National Assembly officials, Aishatu Bappa El Nafati, Mamud Alhaji Abubakar, and Igba Ityoakura Joseph, in a N337 million fraud case to September 23, 2026. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed an amended 23-count charge against the trio, which includes allegations of conspiracy, forgery, and criminal breach of trust.

The defense, led by counsel Muham Ndayako, filed preliminary objections challenging several counts of the amended charges, arguing that some had already been quashed by the court on May 12, 2025. The EFCC's counsel, Franci Usani, opposed the objections, describing them as frivolous and aimed at frustrating the re-arraignment process.

The charges allege that El Nafati converted N89.87 million from the National Assembly's account to personal accounts and forged receipts from Fazah Integrated Services Limited between 2017 and 2018.
