Court Suspends Inquest into Nkanu Adichie's Death

The Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos suspended the inquest into the death of 21-month-old Nkanu Adichie, the son of renowned author Chimamanda Adichie, on Tuesday. This suspension followed a directive from the Lagos State Attorney General's Office, led by Attorney General Lawal Pedro, to halt proceedings until a meeting with involved parties could be arranged.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Mojisola Dada, was informed that the next meeting is scheduled for May 12, 2026. The inquest, which began on February 25, aims to examine the circumstances surrounding Nkanu's death, who was reportedly referred to Atlantic Paediatric Hospital and later transferred to John Hopkins Hospital.

Despite the presence of the deceased's father, Dr. Ivara Eseg, who was prepared to testify, the proceedings were halted.

Counsel for the deceased's parents, Adeyinka Aderemi, emphasized the need for the Attorney General's Office to formally inform the court of any steps affecting the proceedings.
