Nigerian Court Sentences Nnamdi Kanu to 10 Years for Terrorism

The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), of terrorism after a decade-long trial. Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment, citing clear evidence of Kanu's involvement in terror activities.

Kanu's unruly behavior in court delayed the verdict. Kanu, who was first arrested in 2015 on treason charges and rearrested in Kenya in 2021, faces a 10-year sentence.

The judgment also declared the sit-at-home order in the South East region of Nigeria illegal. Another figure, Simon Ekpa, based in Finland, was mentioned for inciting violence in Nigeria.
