Court Fixes January 15 for Trial of Alleged Ansaru Leaders on Terrorism Charges

The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled the trial of two alleged leaders of the Ansaru sect, Mahmud Usman Abubakar and Abba, to begin on January 15, 2026. The defendants face 32 counts related to terrorism, financing, kidnapping, and illegal mining.

Usman has pleaded guilty to some charges, while Abba denies all accusations. The defense requested access to evidence and a transfer to a suitable facility, citing limited access and preparation time.

The court ruled for a fair hearing and ordered the defense to comply with DSS protocols for access. The prosecution alleges that the defendants were involved in various criminal activities, including bombings, weapon acquisitions, and kidnappings.
