Court Adjourns ADC Deregistration Suit to May 2026

On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, heard fresh arguments in a suit aimed at deregistering the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, and other political parties. The court was asked to stay proceedings pending the determination of an appeal filed at a higher court.

Counsel for the ADC, Shuaib Enejo Aruwa, and other defendants argued that the lower court should not continue to entertain the matter as it was already pending before the appellate court. The plaintiff's counsel, Yakubu Abdullahi Ruba, contended that the appeal did not automatically deprive the trial court of jurisdiction.

The court also addressed applications for joinder from various parties, including members of the House of Representatives and gubernatorial candidates from the ADC and Accord Party. The matter was adjourned to May 18, 2026, for further hearings.
