Ansaru Commander Jailed 15 Years for Illegal Mining - Court Verdict

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Mahmud Usman, a commander of the proscribed terrorist group Ansaru, to 15 years in prison for engaging in illegal mining activities. Usman, also known as Abu Bara Abbas Mukhtar, admitted to the charge of operating illegal mining to fund terrorism and kidnapping operations.

While the court convicted and imposed the jail term, Usman will remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to face 31 other charges. The case has been adjourned until October 21 for the continuation of the trial on the pending counts.
