Ansaru Commander Gets 15-Year Jail Term for Illegal Mining in Abuja

The Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Mahmud Usman, a commander of the Ansaru terror group, to 15 years in prison for illegal mining. Usman pleaded guilty to 10 terrorism charges related to illegal mining activities between 2015 and 2025.

The court also remanded deputy commander Abubakar Abba Isah in custody pending trial. The Federal Government cited national security concerns in the case.

While Usman pleaded guilty, Abba differed on the charges. The matter has been adjourned until September 21 for further trial proceedings.
