Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Lawyer and Officer in Abuja

On Friday, a high court in Maitama, Abuja, presided over by Justice Samira Batur, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of lawyer Victor Giwa and police officer Inspector Edith Erhunmu. This action was taken due to their repeated failure to appear for arraignment in a N300 million eviction case.

The prosecution, represented by Aderonk Imana, noted that the matter, filed in January 2023, has suffered prolonged delays attributed to the defendants' consistent absence, which has been interpreted as a tactic to stall proceedings. Despite previous adjournments and a medical report submitted by the second defendant's counsel, Ogbu Aboj, the court found that the defendants' conduct demonstrated a disregard for the judicial process.

Justice Batur emphasized that the case has lingered for nearly two years without arraignment and granted the prosecution's request for a bench warrant, with the matter adjourned until April 29, 2026.
