Court Issues Arrest Warrant for PDP's Tanimu Turaki

On Thursday, an Abuja High Court, presided over by Justice Peter Kekemek, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Tanimu Turaki, the factional National Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The warrant was issued after Turaki failed to attend court for his arraignment concerning charges of giving false information to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Prosecuting counsel Usman Rabiu Busi noted Turaki's absence despite being served with a hearing notice. Justice Kekemek invoked provisions of Section 396(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, emphasizing that Turaki was aware of the charges against him.

The court also addressed a motion filed by Turaki's defense counsel, Abdulaziz Ibrahim, seeking to quash the charges, which was deemed not ripe for hearing. Consequently, the court ordered the issuance of a bench warrant to compel Turaki to appear and answer the pending charges, adjourning the case until April 22 for his arraignment.
