Court Orders CAC to Reinstate NYCN Registration

On October 6, 2025, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) withdrew the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), leading to the establishment of an interim management committee (IMC) to oversee the council's affairs. However, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, ruled that the CAC acted beyond its statutory powers in deregistering the NYCN.

The court ordered the immediate dissolution of the nine-member IMC, which was led by Buhari Shehu and established by the CAC and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development. The court's judgment emphasized that the CAC's actions interfered with the existing leadership structure of the NYCN, which was already subject to ongoing litigation.

Justice Nyako found that the CAC's withdrawal of the NYCN's registration certificate and the installation of the interim committee altered the status quo and exceeded the regulatory oversight limits. The court ordered the CAC to restore the NYCN's registration and recognize Sukubo Sara Igb Sukubo as the legitimate trustee of the council.
