Court Orders CAC to Restore NYCN Registration Certificate

On October 6, 2025, a Nigerian court ruled that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) must restore the registration of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and return its certificate. This decision was made by Justice Binta Nyako, who found that the CAC lacked statutory power to determine the tenure of the council's leadership.

The court's ruling came after the CAC had withdrawn the NYCN's registration certificate on October 28, 2020, leading to a prolonged leadership crisis within the organization. The Ministry of Youth Development had previously established a nine-member interim management committee on October 7, 2025, to oversee the council's affairs.

Sukubo Sara Igb Sukubo, the plaintiff and current president of NYCN, sought judicial clarification on the legality of the CAC's actions. The court determined that the CAC exceeded its authority by deregistering the NYCN and ordered the immediate restoration of its status, recognizing Sukubo as the legitimate trustee of the council.
