Ekiti Court Sentences Two Men to Death for Armed Robbery

On Wednesday, the Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced two men, Ojo Olasunkanmi (31) and Obamoyegun Dele (31), to death by hanging for their involvement in an armed robbery that took place on August 11, 2018, along the Oganganmodu off Igbol road in Ido Ekiti. They were arraigned on January 31, 2020, alongside a third defendant, Adewal David (36), facing six counts including conspiracy and armed robbery.

The prosecution presented a graphic account from victim Bosed Ojo, who testified that the robbery occurred around 1 AM when the assailants, impersonating NDLEA officers, forced their way into the premises. The robbers stole various items, including a Toyota Sienna, phones, a DVD player, and cash.

The court found the defendants guilty, with Justice Bamidel Omotoso ruling in favor of the prosecution. The defense's arguments were dismissed, leading to the conviction and sentencing of Olasunkanmi and Dele to death by hanging.
