Two Sentenced to Death for Armed Robbery in Ekiti

On Wednesday, the Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced two men, Ojo Olasunkanmi, 31, and Obamoyegun Dele, 31, to death by hanging for their involvement in an armed robbery that took place on August 11, 2018, along the Oganganmodu off Igbol road in Ido Ekiti. They were arraigned on January 31, 2020, alongside a third defendant, Adewal David, 36, in a case that included six counts of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The court heard that the defendants impersonated officers of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to gain access to the victim's premises, where they committed the robbery. The victims were threatened with a gun and an axe, and various items, including a Toyota Sienna, mobile phones, a DVD player, and cash, were stolen.

The prosecution presented nine witnesses and various exhibits, while the defense argued their case without calling witnesses. Justice Bamidel Omotoso ruled in favor of the prosecution, leading to the conviction of Olasunkanmi and Dele.
