Court Issues Arrest Warrant for PDP's Kabiru Turaki

On Thursday, a high court in the Federal Capital Territory issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, the factional chairman of the People's Democratic Party. The order was made by Justice U.P.

Kekemek after Turaki failed to appear for arraignment in a criminal case initiated by the Nigerian Police. The case, which dates back to October 2022, involves allegations that Turaki provided false information to the police.

His previous arraignment was scheduled for January 28 but was stalled due to his absence, despite a prior court order mandating his appearance. The prosecution urged the court to issue a bench warrant against Turaki for failing to honor the summons.

Turaki's defense counsel informed the court that his absence was due to a petition filed with the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court seeking to transfer the case. However, Justice Kekemek ruled that the filing of the petition does not halt criminal proceedings unless directed by the Chief Judge.

Consequently, the judge granted the prosecution's application for Turaki's arrest and adjourned the matter for further proceedings.
