Court Bars Turaki Faction from PDP National Secretariat

On November 21, 2025, a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a ruling that prevents the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) from accessing the party's national secretariat. Justice Joyc Abdulmalik declared the convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025, as null and void, affirming the legitimacy of the faction supporting Nyesom Wike.

The court's decision also restrains the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcomes of the invalid convention. The ruling emphasized that the actions of the Turaki faction violated Section 287(3) of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates adherence to court orders.

The judgment also noted that expulsions from the party by the Turaki faction were unconstitutional. The ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP has intensified, with both factions preparing to challenge the ruling in the Supreme Court, highlighting the deepening tensions and legal battles over party control.
