Nigerian Court Rules Nnamdi Kanu Fit for Trial, Rejects Hospital Transfer Request

The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is fit to stand trial on seven counts of treason and terrorism. The court dismissed Kanu's request for a transfer to a national hospital for medical treatment, as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) panel found his health conditions, including hypertension and kidney disease, not life-threatening.

The court's decision allows the trial to continue without interruption. Kanu's lead counsel, Agabi, received and reviewed the NMA report, which concluded that Kanu's health challenges do not prevent him from standing trial.

The court emphasized that the Department of State Services' medical facilities are equipped to handle his care.
