Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Supplying Arms to Bandits

Raya Haruna was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Kano for her role in supplying arms to bandits. The judgment was delivered by Justice Simon Amobeda on Friday, who found Haruna guilty on three counts, including unlawfully transporting firearms and providing logistical support to criminal elements.

The charges were brought under the Firearms Act and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022. Justice Amobeda noted that although Haruna did not directly participate in violent attacks, her role as an arms courier significantly aided the operations of bandits and terrorists, contributing to widespread destruction and loss of life.

The court emphasized that the transport of weapons serves as a critical link in terrorist operations. Haruna's sentence will run concurrently from the date of her arrest in 2024, and she has been ordered to recover arms and enroll in a rehabilitation program during her incarceration.
