Female Arms Courier Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

Halima Haliru Umar, an adult female from Unguwan Boka, Faskari LGA, Katsina State, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Justice Hauwa Yilwa after pleading guilty to two counts of terrorism and possession of live ammunition. The charges stemmed from her arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) on July 7, 2025, in Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State, where she was found with 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition.

During the court proceedings, her defense lawyer, Hamza Dantani, requested leniency, noting that this was her first offense and that she is a nursing mother. The prosecution, led by Dr.

Caliatu Ez, confirmed that there were no prior convictions against her. Justice Yilwa adjourned the trial for the remaining counts to July 9, 2025, after suspending proceedings briefly.

The DSS's Fahad Tahir provided details of her arrest and the investigation, which included a confession and audio-visual evidence.
