Abuja Lawyer's Cyberbullying Trial Adjourned to June 2025

The trial of an Abuja-based lawyer, Abdulrahman, and several co-defendants for alleged cyberbullying has been adjourned to June 2025 by Justice Rita Offili Ajumogobia. The defendants are facing 11 counts, including charges of cybercrime, defamation, and advance fee fraud, with the case registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/526/2025.

They pleaded not guilty and are currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, having been denied bail on certain counts. The allegations include a conspiracy to commit offenses related to cyberstalking against Senator Shehu Buba Umar, violating sections of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, as amended in 2024.

One count involves Abdulrahman allegedly intending to send a defamatory video via TikTok and YouTube, tarnishing the senator's image. The Attorney General of the Federation, represented by Rabiu Ranger Abdullahi, is prosecuting the case, with testimonies expected from witnesses in the upcoming hearings.
