Court Threatens Sowore's Lawyer with Contempt in Abuja

On Monday, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Moham Umar threatened to commit Marshal Abubakar, the lead defense lawyer for Omoyele Sowore, for contempt of court after Abubakar raised his voice during proceedings. The court is hearing a case where Sowore is accused of making false claims against President Bola Tinubu through a Facebook post.

The situation escalated when Abubakar struggled to conclude his cross-examination of a prosecution witness, leading to a heated exchange with the judge. Justice Umar ordered Abubakar to kneel in court, but Akinlolu Kehind SAN intervened, pleading for the judge's forgiveness for his colleague.

The prosecution, represented by Kehind, objected to the defense's request to adjourn proceedings, arguing it was a delay tactic. The judge ultimately scheduled the next hearing for April 13 to adopt final written addresses regarding the defense's no-case submission.
