Court Halts ADC Congresses in Adamawa Amid Leadership Dispute

The Adamawa State High Court, presided over by Justice Ahm Isah, has issued an order suspending the state congresses of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which were scheduled to commence on Thursday, April 9, 2026. This intervention occurred just hours before the congress activities were set to begin, following a suit filed by the state chairman of the party, Yohanna Shehu.

Shehu challenged the congress plans, describing them as exclusive and executed without proper involvement, despite the recognition of the party's leadership. The internal conflict within the ADC has deepened, with a faction led by Sadiq Dasin coordinating the congress arrangements, which Shehu strongly opposes, claiming the committee lacks the authority to oversee the process.

The court has adjourned the matter until April 15, with stakeholders expressing concerns that the ongoing crisis could weaken the party's structure in the state if not resolved quickly. Efforts to reconcile the factions have reportedly failed in recent weeks.
