ADC Leadership Crisis Stalls State Congresses Amid Protests

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is experiencing significant internal turmoil as state congresses are stalled due to ongoing leadership crises. The conflict is primarily between factions led by former Senate President David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gomb.

On April 11, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the suspension of congresses in several states, prompting protests from Gomb's faction, which demands formal recognition of their leadership. Gomb, accompanied by Kogi State representative Leke Abejid, accused Mark's faction of attempting to hijack the party's leadership, asserting that due process must be followed.

The ADC's internal disputes have raised concerns about the party's stability ahead of future electoral contests. Additionally, the Adamawa State chapter's congress has been halted by a court order, with further hearings scheduled for April 15, 2026.
