Court Suspends Recognition of Ondo Regent Amid Legal Dispute

The Ondo State High Court has issued a ruling that suspends the recognition of High Chief Akindel Aladenika as the regent of the community within Odigbo Local Government Area. This decision was made amid an ongoing legal battle concerning the appointment of a regent following the death of Oba Johnson Olatomi in 2020.

The court's ruling, delivered by Justice Adegoroye, restrains the state government and its agencies from recognizing Aladenika as regent until the substantive suit regarding the chieftaincy is determined. The plaintiffs, including High Chief Mondai Sawuju and others, approached the court seeking an interlocutory injunction against the state government’s recognition of Aladenika.

The court emphasized that the matter remains sub judice and that any further recognition of Aladenika would amount to contempt of court. The case continues to be pending, with the court's decision underscoring the importance of adhering to judicial processes in chieftaincy matters.
