Court to Rule on Suit Against Senator Ireti Kingibe

A court in Abuja is scheduled to deliver a ruling today on a suit seeking to bar Senator Ireti Kingibe from participating in activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The suit, filed by Okezuo Godfrei, Anayo Isaiah, and Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of themselves as ward members, claims that Senator Kingibe was suspended on March 10 by the Wuse Ward executive for alleged anti-party activities, which reportedly disregarded the ADC constitution.

The plaintiffs are requesting an interim injunction to restrain Senator Kingibe from presenting herself as a member of the ADC pending the determination of the substantive suit. They argue that her suspension followed due process and was duly ratified.

Furthermore, the plaintiffs allege that despite her suspension, Senator Kingibe continued to hold parallel meetings and issue statements, which they claim amounts to a blatant disregard for the party's internal mechanisms. The court had previously reserved April 1 to rule on whether to grant the plaintiffs' request.
