Nigeria Invitational WT20i Cricket Tournament Kicks Off

The 5th Nigeria Invitational WT20i cricket tournament is set to commence today at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos, Nigeria. The tournament will feature matches between teams from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Rwanda, and South Africa, running until March 29, 2026.

The event is named the Patricia Kambarami Cup in honor of the late pioneer of cricket development in Africa. The opening match will see Rwanda face Ghana, while Nigeria will play against Zimbabwe later in the tournament.

Pieti Lucki, the captain of the Nigerian women's team, expressed that the tournament is crucial for their preparation for World Cup qualifiers. Miek van Voorst, captain of the South African team, shared her excitement about the trip to Nigeria and the challenges ahead.

Dr. Uyi Akpata, president of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, also expressed enthusiasm for the participation of top cricket nations in the tournament.
