NDLEA Reports Rise in Cannabis Cultivation in Adamawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed on Friday that cannabis cultivation has become prevalent in Adamawa State. During a ceremony in Yola marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the NDLEA's state command, led by Aliyu Abubakar, announced the destruction of three cannabis farms.

The agency uncovered a half-hectare cannabis farm in Mayo Belwa and additional farms in Mubi South and Mubi North Local Government Areas. The NDLEA's command reported significant achievements from June 2025, including the arrest of 583 drug suspects and the conviction of 270 individuals.

Additionally, the command seized five tons of various substances, including tramadol, diazepam, codeine, and methamphetamine, commonly referred to as "ice." Dr. Stephen John, a guest speaker at the event, emphasized the unfortunate role drugs play in crime, warning that individuals often resort to drugs before committing crimes such as robbery and kidnapping.
