Cross River Assembly Removes Ogoja LG Vice Chairman

The Cross River State House of Assembly has officially removed Emmanuel Yakubu from his position as Vice Chairman of the Ogoja Local Government Council due to allegations of gross misconduct. The decision was made on Tuesday, following a voice vote where 19 lawmakers voted in favor of his removal, one member abstained, and five were absent.

The resolution, numbered 031, was initiated by the Chairman of the Judiciary and Public Service Committee, Rt. Hon.

Davi Etta, and was based on findings that Yakubu had violated Section 20(1) of the Cross River State Local Government Law 2007 (as amended). The committee conducted an investigation, during which Yakubu was absent, citing ill health, despite being reported at a political rally.

The committee concluded that Yakubu had shown a lack of synergy with the council chairman and had disregarded constitutional authority, leading to his suspension for 90 days to allow for a thorough investigation. Deputy Speaker Sylvest Agabi presided over the session, emphasizing that the removal followed due legislative process.
