Man Sentenced to Life for Raping Daughter in Calabar

On Wednesday, a high court in Calabar, Cross River State, sentenced 46-year-old Imeh Sundai to life imprisonment for the rape of his daughter. The prosecution, led by Basic Rights Counsel, a non-governmental organization focused on protecting the rights of vulnerable children, successfully proved the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justice Bless Egwu of Family Court 2 delivered the judgment, emphasizing the overwhelming evidence against Sundai. Following the conviction, Jame Ibor, principal counsel for the organization, commended the survivor for her courage and resilience throughout the trial.

He also praised the role of the survivor's guardian and acknowledged the support from various stakeholders, including the state ministry of justice, police, and judiciary staff. This conviction marks the fourth related to rape in Cross River State within the past four months, reflecting ongoing efforts to address sexual violence against children.
