Man Sentenced to Life for Raping 6-Month-Old Baby

Victor Dickson, a 47-year-old man, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a six-month-old baby girl in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. The incident took place on October 17, 2021, when the infant's mother was washing clothes and cooking nearby.

Dickson, who lived in the same vicinity, lured the baby into his room, where the assault occurred. The mother testified that she heard the baby crying and, upon checking, found blood stains on the infant's body.

Medical examinations confirmed the assault. Justice Rahman Oshodi, presiding over the case in the Ikeja Judicial Division, noted that Dickson's testimony was inconsistent and contradicted by medical evidence.

The court emphasized the vulnerability of the infant, describing her as one of the "least defenseless human beings." Dickson was convicted on charges of sexual assault and penetration, which are in violation of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
