Man Sentenced to Life for Raping 13-Year-Old in Calabar

Edidiong Cletu Nyojol, a 27-year-old man, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Calabar, Cross River State. The sentencing was delivered by Justice Bless Egwu at the Cross River State Family Court.

The court found Nyojol guilty based on strong medical evidence and corroborating testimonies during the trial. In addition to the life sentence, Justice Egwu ordered Nyojol to pay 1,000,000 Naira as compensation to the victim.

The incident occurred in Calabar South, where Nyojol was found to have forcefully dragged the girl to an incomplete building. The case was supported by the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), a non-governmental organization focused on securing the rights of victims of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Cross River State.
