Cross River State Approves 4,000 New LG Jobs After Flaws

The Cross River State Government has approved the recruitment of 4,000 new workers into the local government service after canceling the 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, which was deemed fundamentally flawed and marred by alleged job racketeering. Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, the Secretary to the State Government, announced this decision following a panel report that indicated the recruitment lacked the Governor’s approval and violated public service rules, laws, and financial regulations.

The report also highlighted issues of institutional complicity and lack of transparency. Consequently, the government nullified the recruitment, retaining only 83 personnel from CROSIEC and 821 individuals whose recruitment was duly approved.

Eyo Ekpo, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, stated that affected workers could reapply when a new recruitment portal opens in two to three weeks. The government is also working on compensation modalities for those affected and has directed investigations into the canceled exercise.
