Cross River State Implements Reforms to Enhance Education Sector

Cross River State initiates educational reforms to strengthen the education sector, as announced by the Commissioner of Education, Prof Stephen Odey. The reforms target both private and public schools, emphasizing proper registration and compliance with regulations.

The state introduced a Student Index Number (SIN) system to track pupils and combat fraud, along with mandatory annual teacher training. Prof Odey highlighted the importance of teacher qualifications, requiring NCE for teaching junior secondary classes and a degree for senior secondary classes.

The reforms also include the establishment of school clubs to enhance student engagement and learning opportunities.
