PDP Candidate Accuses Cross River Government of Tax Targeting

Sir Arthur Jarvi Archibong, the governorship candidate for the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River, alleged that the state government is conducting a tax witch-hunt against his university located in Akpabio Local Government Area. Archibong accused the government of deploying tax authorities to target the institution as part of a broader effort to suppress opposition.

He made these statements during a rally in Calabar, where he linked the alleged tax audits to an attempt to undermine his campaign. Archibong noted that his university employs 500 people and awards scholarships to 300 students, emphasizing its contributions to the state.

He criticized the state government for not providing support to the university, despite it being a private institution. Furthermore, he mentioned that the tax obligations were communicated by the state’s commission, which stated that even opposition parties cannot benefit from the system.

Archibong's running mate, Alphonsu Eba, also spoke against the government's actions.
