Nigerian Customer Sues Opay Over Alleged Illegal Account Freeze Leading to Father's Death

Mose King, a Nigerian, has taken legal action against Opay, a fintech company, in the Federal High Court in Lagos. King alleges that Opay unlawfully froze his account, leading to his father's death.

The lawsuit challenges Opay's decision to restrict King's account without legal authorization, preventing him from accessing funds to settle his father's hospital bills. King claims the freeze violated his fundamental rights and seeks 50 million in damages, a public apology, and publication in two national newspapers.

The case, marked FHC/L/CS/178/2026, is set for a hearing on March 2 before Justice Daniel Osiagor. Opay allegedly attributed the freeze to fraudulent activities, causing King significant hardship.

Despite being served, Opay has not responded to the lawsuit.
