Nigeria Customs Service Automates Excise Registration System for Efficient Administration

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has initiated the automation of the Excise Registration System (ERS) as part of its modernization agenda for efficient excise administration. Following a successful pilot phase, the ERS has been officially activated, with three key excise facilities across the country going live.

The pilot phase, conducted from July to August 2025, aimed to test the new digital platform's functionality and achieved positive results. The NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, highlighted the strategic importance of the excise sector in Nigeria and the system's capacity to provide a strong foundation for nationwide rollout, starting with selected factories like British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) PLC and others.
