Nigeria Customs Introduces Automated Cargo Clearance System for Efficiency

The Nigeria Customs Service has launched an automated cargo clearance system to streamline the disposal of overtime cargo. This new system allows clearing agents and stakeholders to digitally clear overtime goods, aiming to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the clearance process.

The initiative was announced during a sensitization program at the Zone B Customs Training School in Dutse, Kano. The system is designed to address longstanding challenges such as congestion, paperwork bottlenecks, and lengthy clearance processes.

The introduction of this automated platform is in line with the NCS Act of 2023, providing a legal framework for electronic processes in managing overtime cargo, including provisions for condemnation and auction.
