Nigeria Customs Calls for Stronger Collaboration Against Crime

The Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller Adewale Adeniyi, has called for enhanced inter-agency collaboration to address transnational crimes such as terrorism financing, money laundering, and wildlife trafficking. During a study tour at the National Defence College held at the Customs headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, Adeniyi commended the growing capacity development within the service.

He noted Nigeria's removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list as a significant milestone that restores investor confidence and strengthens the country's global financial standing. Adeniyi explained that the Customs Service's role has evolved beyond revenue generation and border enforcement, addressing major financial crimes.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among various agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, and relevant Customs agencies, to effectively tackle terrorism financing. The ongoing collaboration with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit aims to intercept illicit goods and enhance currency declaration policies.
