Customs Seizes N2.6bn Drugs, Hands Over to NDLEA in Imo

On Friday, the Nigeria Customs Service's Federal Operations Unit Zone C in Owerri, Imo, seized prohibited drugs valued at N2.6 billion and handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The contraband included 1,126,060 tramadol tablets, 21,245 bottles of codeine syrup, and 685 sacks of cannabis sativa, among other illicit substances.

Bishir Balogun, the area control charge unit officer, emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to safeguard the nation from the dangers posed by illicit drugs. He noted that the handover was not merely procedural but demonstrated strong inter-agency synergy in addressing drug trafficking.

Balogun highlighted the serious public health threats posed by the misuse of these substances, particularly among the youth, and warned that substance abuse contributes to high-profile criminal activities and social instability. He commended the officers for their vigilance and dedication and urged the public to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies.
