Customs Seizes Drones, Narcotics Worth ₦43.5 Billion

On Thursday, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announced the seizure of surveillance drones, narcotics, and expired pharmaceutical drugs valued at ₦43,588,618,859.00 at the APM Terminals examination bay inside Apapa Port, Lagos. Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi addressed maritime journalists, explaining that the seized items will be handed over to relevant government agencies for further investigation.

He emphasized that the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 mandates the agency to ensure national security beyond revenue collection, focusing on the safety of goods entering the country. Adeniyi noted that the seaport is a critical point for various illegal activities, with narcotics and controlled pharmaceuticals often concealed within legitimate consignments.

A total of 12 containers were intercepted, containing narcotics, security-sensitive equipment, and expired goods. The total duty paid value of these seizures is ₦43,588,618,859.00, including 4,777 parcels of cannabis sativa weighing 2,388.5kg, assorted automobile spare parts, and other items.
