Customs Seizes ₦59m Expired Drugs, Hands to NAFDAC

On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, the Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt Area I Command, formally handed over a consignment of expired pharmaceutical products valued at over ₦59 million to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). This action was taken to prevent dangerous medicines from reaching unsuspecting Nigerians.

The handover occurred at the command’s headquarters in Port Harcourt and was witnessed by representatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies. Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku stated that the seizure demonstrated the command’s commitment to stopping harmful pharmaceutical products from entering the market.

The expired drugs were intercepted during a joint cargo examination involving NAFDAC and other relevant agencies. Atuluku warned of severe health consequences if expired medicines were allowed into circulation.

Pharm. Adepoju Raufu, representing NAFDAC, commended the Customs Service and assured that the agency would ensure the safe disposal of the expired medicaments.
