Nigeria Customs Seize N3.3bn Contraband, Arrest Eight Suspects in Ikeja

The Nigeria Customs Service, specifically the Federal Operations Unit Zone A in Ikeja, seized contraband worth N3.3 billion and apprehended eight suspects. The seized items, including foreign rice, sugar, vehicles, oil, fuel, and drugs, were intercepted along the southwest axis over the past five weeks.

Aliyu Gambo, the Customs Area Controller, disclosed the details during a press briefing in Ikeja. The unit intercepted a significant amount of smuggled goods, totaling 6,954 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 77 bags of foreign sugar, 21 assorted vehicles, and more.

Additionally, they intercepted drugs, including parcels of cannabis indica, disrupting the supply chain network. The Customs emphasized their commitment to enforcing government fiscal policies, combatting smuggling, and upholding professional conduct.

The operation also highlighted the importance of environmental protection, in line with international best practices. The Customs Service aims to strengthen its operations, intelligence-driven patrols, and collaboration with other security agencies to suppress smuggling activities.
