Nigeria Customs Seizes N3.3 Billion Contraband, Including Synthetic Cannabis in Lagos

The Nigeria Customs Service, under the leadership of Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, conducted a successful operation in Lagos, seizing contraband worth N3.3 billion, notably synthetic cannabis. The operation, driven by intelligence, aimed to disrupt smuggling networks and enhance trade compliance enforcement.

Eight suspects, including a female associated with the cannabis seizure, were apprehended. The Customs Service recorded a total of 144 seizures in late December, highlighting the scale and diversity of smuggling activities in Lagos.

The operation, spanning from December 10, 2025, to February 2, 2026, also resulted in the recovery of N36.89 million through demand notices issued for cargo misdeclaration and trade compliance breaches. This interception underscores the Customs Service's commitment to combating smuggling and trans-border crimes, with a focus on strengthening collaboration with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking and other illicit activities.
