Nigeria Customs Launches Electronic Cargo Tracking System

On Tuesday, the Nigeria Customs Service, through the Port & Terminal Multiservices Limited Area Command, held a sensitisation workshop regarding the deployment of the Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) at the command’s conference hall. Abdullahi Abubakar, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, reported that Nura Miko, the Deputy Controller of Customs and Customs Area Controller for PTML, stated that the command was chosen as the second pilot site for the ECTS following its successful implementation at Apapa Area Command.

Miko highlighted the strategic importance of PTML in national revenue generation and trade facilitation. The ECTS aims to modernize customs operations by providing real-time cargo monitoring via GPS, eliminating the need for physical escorts, and enhancing efficiency.

Miko noted that stakeholders would benefit from faster clearance, reduced costs, and improved security. The workshop aimed to engage stakeholders on the new system's procedures and responsibilities, urging participants to embrace the changes.
