Lagos State Urges Residents to Protect Digital Identity

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has called on residents to safeguard their digital identities in response to a surge in cyber fraud. During a YouTube session on Saturday, Dr.

Oladimeji Mose, the Vice Chairman of LSSTF, stressed the importance of training organizations to address the prevalence of cybercrime. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there has been a notable rise in cyber fraud, resulting in significant financial losses, with 119,000 data breaches recorded and 2.5 million naira lost to cybercrime.

Dr. Mose highlighted that individuals are at risk due to the exposure of their personal information on social media, which can lead to identity theft.

Payaza Oluwabamis, a security expert, urged residents to prioritize safety and avoid displaying sensitive information online. Meshol Emmanuel, head of LSSTF's outreach program, encouraged participation in safeguarding digital identities and reporting data breaches to the appropriate authorities.
