Dangote Cement Commits to Sustainable Manufacturing Goals

At the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) dialogue held in Madrid, Spain, Arvind Pathak, the Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plc, reaffirmed the company's commitment to sustainable manufacturing and low-carbon production. He emphasized the necessity for the African cement sector to pursue growth while adopting innovative methods to reduce carbon emissions.

Pathak highlighted the importance of accelerating the decarbonization pathway through the increased use of alternative fuels, reducing clinker content in cement, and investing in innovative cement technologies tailored to local conditions. The construction sector in Nigeria is responsible for approximately 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, with cement production accounting for about half of that.

Achieving net zero by 2060 is a critical goal for the sector, making Dangote Cement's commitment vital for the industry's future. Pathak's role as an elected member of the GCCA Board positions Dangote Cement to influence global decarbonization efforts, which is crucial for promoting sustainable cement manufacturing in Nigeria and Africa.
