Aliko Dangote to Donate One-Third of Wealth to Charity

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, intends to donate one-third of his wealth, estimated at $35.1 billion, to charitable causes, amounting to about $11.7 billion. His daughter, Halima Dangote, a trustee of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, revealed this plan in an interview with Bloomberg.

She stated that the family supports this commitment, which is part of a long-term succession strategy. Dangote has established a framework to ensure that his philanthropic activities persist beyond his lifetime, focusing on healthcare and education.

He has already donated 25 percent to the foundation, aligning with Sharia Code principles. Halima emphasized the importance of philanthropy as a responsibility linked to their business success.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation, founded in 1994, has received significant funding, including a $1.25 billion endowment and an additional $700 million. The foundation primarily focuses on projects in Nigeria, with some initiatives extending across Africa and globally, including partnerships with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
