Dangote Pledges N600 Million for LASU Female Hostel

Aliko Dangote did not attend the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies at Lagos State University (LASU) but was represented by his daughter Fatima, who received an honorary doctorate in entrepreneurship on his behalf. He pledged N600 million through the Aliko Dangote Foundation to fund the construction of a female student hostel at LASU.

This initiative is significant as it addresses accommodation shortages that disproportionately affect female students, impacting their retention and academic stability. Additionally, Dangote's commitment includes preferential employment consideration for first-class graduates in engineering and sciences after their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu awarded N20 million each to LASU’s top graduates, Ayilara Lawal Olawale and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, who achieved CGPAs of 4.96 and 4.97, respectively. This pledge follows previous commitments by Dangote, including N550 million for a hostel at the Federal University of Technology Owerri and a decade-long N1 trillion education commitment targeting STEM, girls' literacy, and teacher training.
