Aliko Dangote to Donate One-Third of Wealth to Charity

Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest man, has announced plans to donate one-third of his wealth, estimated at $35.1 billion, to charitable causes, amounting to approximately $11.7 billion. His daughter, Halima Dangote, revealed this decision during an interview with Bloomberg, stating it is part of a succession plan supported by the family.

Halima emphasized that philanthropy is integral to her father's legacy, with a focus on health and education. She noted that Dangote has already donated 25 percent of his estate to the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which was established in 1994 and received a $1.25 billion endowment about ten years ago.

The foundation has since attracted an additional $700 million in funding, with 70 percent of its spending directed towards projects in Nigeria, 20 percent across Africa, and the remaining funds allocated globally. The foundation collaborates with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and state governments in northern Nigeria, contributing to the eradication of wild poliovirus in Africa.
