Dangote Refinery Sparks Controversy with Nationwide Fuel Distribution Amid Price Fixing

Dangote Refinery has initiated nationwide fuel distribution using newly imported Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks, aiming to ease fuel distribution and reduce retail pump prices in Nigeria. The company invested billions in importing the CNG trucks, with a plan to save Nigeria an estimated trillion annually in logistics costs.

Despite the move being seen as beneficial, it has stirred controversy in the downstream sector. Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) have criticized Dangote's initiative, alleging it could harm independent operators.

The refinery has set new fuel prices ranging from ₦ per liter across states, causing mixed reactions in the industry.
